Mirrored Console Table
Mirrored console table doesn't have to be kitschy, but can be a prized and elegant piece of furniture. Traditionally, a console table was very much like a shelf that was attached to the wall. The legs receded toward the wall or the table was supported by a bracket. Some were quite ornate, with gold brackets and dolphin feet, and became popular during the 18th century. Often, there was a mirror above it. A console table was also known as a pier table, and was usually placed in the space between two windows.
Like the console tables of yesterday, a mirrored console table is best in your foyer or entryway. As such, it will be one of the first things your guests see when they come into your home, and you may want to make an impression. A console table can be made of just about anything, from chrome, to wood, to stainless steel. It can be custom made or bought right from the store or flea market. One of the advantages of a mirrored console table is that it will reflect what’s put upon it, and you can put anything on it.
You might want to place a large vase filled with fruit or flowers in the center, flanked by tall candles. This arrangement might look good placed against the main staircase. Another table might be decorated with a runner, with a centerpiece made of a straw basket filled with colored glass balls. Glitter fruit, or bibelots made of colored glass or crystal might be set directly on top of the mirror top, which will double their beauty and brilliance — it helps if they have felt bases so not to scratch the glass. Another console table might hold the bust of some Greek goddess, an ostrich egg mounted on a base, or treasured old books. A grouping of different candles of different heights would also look spectacular on your table. The table doesn’t even have to stand beneath a mirror, but can be put beneath a grouping of photos, or botanical prints.
There seems to be no end to who you can display your mirrored console table !
